About bidding

Once the auction is open and you are logged in, you can start bidding. Read the general terms and conditions first. You will find these at the bottom of the page.

The bid you place is the amount you want to spend on the artwork including VAT. The auction committee reserves the right to cancel a sale if the situation gives cause to do so.

How can I bid?
Go to the page of the artwork you want to bid on. Enter an amount on the item page and click Bid. Your offer is not final yet. The total amount, including auction fees (€9.50 per item), will be shown. Then click Place Bid to finalize your bid. Your offer is now binding and will be processed by us. You will also receive the bid confirmation by email.

Bid increments
Your bid must be at least €2.50 higher than the current bid. If someone makes a higher bid, the bid is automatically increased: this is called a bid increment. The exact amount by which the bid will increase depends on the amount of the current bid. These are the agreements:

For example, if there is a bid of €20, the next bid will be at least €2,50 higher. When the most recent bid is €1100, the next bid will be at least €50 higher. The higher the last bid, the bigger the jump to place the next one.

Automatic Time Extension
If someone places a bid within the last 5 minutes before an auction closes, the closing time for that item is extended by 5 minutes. If a new bid is placed again, the closing time extends once more. This ensures that every bidder has a fair chance to place one final bid.

An offer is binding
You cannot delete your bid: a bid is a binding agreement. By bidding, you also declare that you agree with the General Auction Conditions that apply to Veilet Auctions. If the artwork is assigned to you, you are obliged to pay for it and take it.
